Carpenter Technology Trials New Wire Coating

WYOMISSING, Pa. – October 31, 2016 – Carpenter Technology Corporation (NYSE: CRS) today announced the development of CarTech® EcoClear™ wire coating for cold heading fabrication of industrial fasteners used in aerospace, automotive, or consumer end-use applications. CarTech EcoClear is a nonmetallic lubricant applied as a thin coating to heading-grade wire and was developed to provide an option between precoat and copper coatings.

The new coating is easy to apply and control, exhibits excellent cold headability, and is easy to remove following fabrication. It is intended for less severe heading applications requiring up to two strikes. For suitable applications, CarTech EcoClear coating provides a longer shelf life and protection against die wear compared to precoat and is more economical compared to copper coatings.

CarTech EcoClear wire coating is currently in testing with select customers. Carpenter Technology unveiled the new coating with customers at the National Industrial Fastener Show Mill Supply and Expo last week in Las Vegas.
